DOHA: University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) celebrated World Mental Health Dayunder the fitting theme 'Make Mental Health a Priority'. The initiative was led by the department of Student Success and Counselling, under Student Affairs. Students, faculty and staff members from across the University’s community participated in the lively celebration, featuring a Mental Health Zone, an introductory workshop and a campus walk.

Commenting on the initiative, President of UDST Dr. Salem Al Naemi said: “Health plays a crucial role in the success and happiness of our students. At University of Doha for Science and Technology, we are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment in which our students can thrive, meet and exceed their potential.

"Since the COVID-19 pandemic, a powerful spotlight has emerged on the need to address and support mental health challenges amongst the global education community, and today’s event is an example of UDST’s specific commitment to mental health across the University’s population.”

The day started with March for Mental Health – a short walk led by staff from the Student Success and Counselling department, and attended by UDST’s executives, faculty, students and staff. The Mental Health Zone was set up and hosted in the main building of the University, filled with food stands, interactive games and a live DJ. The Student Success and Counselling department ran a workshop for students to introduce the topic of prioritizing self-care, through the process of developing compassion.

UDST was awarded earlier this year the 'Healthy Campus Platinum Label' – the highest level of certification in the ‘Healthy Campus’ program run by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The award focuses on the fulfilment of 100 criteria across six major health categories, including mental and social health. UDST is the first university in the MENA region to be granted the Platinum Label, making the University a role model not only for the State of Qatar, but regionally.
