DOHA: Education Above All’s (EAA) Al Fakhoora programme along with UNDP, UNICEF and UNWRA held a workshop on Monday and Tuesday in Amman, Jordan, to identify the recovery, reconstruction and psychosocial needs of the education sector in Gaza.
The workshop saw the three UN agencies operating in Gaza present a detailed overview regarding the situation on the ground in Gaza and the priority areas for intervention in the short to medium term, modes of implementation of projects as well as the human resource needs. Based on the presentations and relevant findings Al Fakhoora will subsequently assess how it can provide assistance to education projects in Gaza.
Farooq Burney, Director of Al Fakhoora, said: “This workshop has provided an opportunity to receive a comprehensive and updated overview of the recovery, reconstruction and psychosocial needs of the education sector in Gaza. Each UN agency has provided detailed information relevant to its specific area: development, children and refugees. This is important as it allows us to take strategic action working with our partners in the areas which are most in need, and we are grateful to the recent donation received from the Qatar Development Fund which will enable us to put many projects into action.”
