DOHA: Mesaimeer coach Rodion Gacanin is seeking a committed performance from his players in their clash against Al Khor today.
Mesaimeer will take on Al Khor in a battle where both are looking to avoid relegation.
Indeed, Mesaimeer and Al Khor have only registered one win apiece this season and will be looking break the spell.
“As I had said earlier, we were focussing on two matches after the break. The last match we lost. This is our second match, our second chance to be competitive and stay in the league,” Gacanin said.
“I hope my players will be more focussed and not commit individual mistakes which happened in the last match. We have the ability and the quality.
“We are doing well on the attacking front but we are making more individual mistakes elsewhere. Hopefully the players will play with more focus and we will do better in this match,” Gacanin added.
“Nothing will happen if we don’t win this game. Life will go on. Win, lose or draw, there are only three options. The world is not going to change after one win or one loss. I hope there will be a match where we will not give gifts to the other team. We concede too many goals in that fashion. The players have to be more patient. Khor have three players who can decide a match. We must stop them. And look to create chances on the counter attack,” he said.
About his injured players, Gacanin said: ““Osama, our left back, has suffered an injury and he will require surgery.”
“95 per cent of Mesaimeer’s players are coming from the second division. We have problems with speed and the agility of the players. If we fix these problems, we can do better. First of all we must play for results. Most of our players don’t play for results at the moment,” he said.
“This season there are three or four teams who are not doing well and they are all in the same position. Last year Qatar SC finished fourth and now they are towards the bottom end of the standings. In the end it will be the little details that will decide the outcome.”
Al Khor coach Jean Fernandez said yesterday: “It’s an important game for both teams. The team that will take three points will get a good boost and secure their future in the QSL that little bit more.”
He added: “I respect this team and I know that this match will hinge on some small details. We are coming from a defeat against Lekhwiya but we performed well against them and that will give us confidence for this match.”
