Tropical storm leaves 4 dead, 2 missing in Philippines

MANILA: Tropical storm Wukong is heading for Palawan island in western Philippines with weakening force, leaving four dead and two missing in the country, government agency said Thursday morning.
 
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said among the four victims, three died when their house collapsed by a falling tree in Eastern Samar, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.
 
A total of 13,520 people in five cities and four provinces were affected by the tropical storm. More than 6,000 people fled their homes and have so far settled in 18 evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said.
 
Wukong slowed down while approaching Coron island, Palawan, early Thursday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
 
Due to its influence, downtown area of Legazpi city was submerged in flood water. Parts of Metro Manila also experienced light rain last night.
 
The Coast Guard said on Thursday morning, 9,286 persons were stranded at ports in Manila, Lucena, Calapan and Mamburao. (QNA)
