ISLAMABAD: The change of guard of the Foreign Office will take place today as Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry will assume the Foreign Secretary’s office immediately after the inauguration of the new block of the Foreign Office adjacent to the existing building of the ministry on Constitution Avenue here. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will perform the inauguration of the new block of the Foreign Office in a simple ceremony where heads of foreign missions and some senior diplomats have been invited.
The outgoing Foreign Secretary Syed Jalil Abbas Jailani who initiated the construction work for the new block of the Foreign Office will act as the master of ceremonies during his last hours as Foreign Secretary. He will be leaving for Washington the same evening to assume charge as Pakistan’s Ambassador for the United States.
Highly placed diplomatic sources in the Foreign Office said that Aizaz Chaudhry being the new Foreign Secretary would brief the prime minister about the salient features of Pakistan’s ties with the world capitals and he will seek guidance from the prime minister pertaining to the working of the Foreign Office, since Sharif is also holding the portfolio of Foreign Affairs.
