The renovated and shaded area near the Doha Port along the Corniche Road where fresh fish and other seafood stocks will be sold soon.

DOHA: The open area near the Doha Port along the Corniche Road where fresh fish was sold early in the morning every day earlier has been renovated.
The area now has a levelled floor and is shaded like a shaded car park.
It will soon reopen and fresh fish and prawns will be sold every morning like before.
Doha Municipality has renovated the place and is all set to reopen the area soon for retailing fresh fish and other seafood stocks like prawns.
A highlight of the renovated place is that it has wooden tables and saleable stocks will be displayed on them and not kept in plastic baskets as was the case before.
The practice was unhygienic as people used to dip their hands deep in the baskets and pick fish and prawns.
The area has been shaded to make sure the fish and other seafood stocks on offer for sale are not exposed to sunlight or dust.
Each shaded area will be allotted to a vendor, thus guaranteeing him sufficient space to accommodate large stocks of fish and prawns as well as customers.
Earlier, the place was unorganised and vendors used to occupy space along the walkway randomly.
It is expected that more people would visit the place to buy fresh fish and prawns once the shaded area reopens.
