DOHA: Authorities have temporary closed down two outlets this week for selling expired food and not adhering to health and hygiene rules.
The outlets included a bakery and a sweets shop in Al Gharaafa that were caught selling coloured food items in violation of health standards.
The bakery on Al Hidad Street was ordered shut for five days by Al Rayyan Municipality.
The other bakery and sweets shop was closed down in New Madinat Khalifa for 10 days for selling expired food stuffs.
The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has adopted a policy of naming and shaming outlets that cheat or sell expired products following a request from the Central Municipal Council.
The ministry has closed 73 outlets, including restaurants and cafes, across the country recently and published their names on its website. Restaurants have been shut for five, 10, 15, 30 and 60 days depending on violations.
