Qatar Alumni Chapter of Government Engineering College, Thrissur, volunteers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
Doha: Qatar Alumni Chapter of Government Engineering College, Thrissur (QGET) is all set to volunteer for the much-anticipated FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
QGET has a volunteer group of 10 people who are among the 5,000 selected from 60,000 applicants for the World Cup competition scheduled to take place in the country from November 21 to December 18, 2022.
Moreover, these volunteers were also part of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 which was conducted recently. The volunteers who participated in the event were from 1990 to 2019 graduates proving the fact that age is not an obstacle for contributing to the society.
They carried out their duties in six stadiums: Al Janoub Stadium, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Ras Abu Aboud Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, and Education City Stadium.
The volunteering roles range from various departments within the FIFA network — TV operations, fan support, transport, media operations, ticketing, spectator services support and workforce operations, among others.
The alumni chapter is a socio-cultural and professional organisation registered under Indian Business and Professionals Council under the aegis of Indian Embassy.
The Government Engineering College Thrissur is one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering institutes in Kerala in India and has produced several prominent engineers who played significant and productive roles to the society in India as well as overseas.
It is a diversified alumni body, and has been an active group in various activities, including those organised by the Qatari government since it was created in December 1991.
