DOHA: Orientalist Museum is hosting a charity benefit at MIA Park Bazaar on Saturday.
As part of its Afrehom project, the museum will sell tote bags and cushions made from recycled art material at a market stall. Proceeds will go to Qatar Charity’s Blind Children initiative.
Afrehom, which means ‘make them happy’ in Arabic, looks at ways to recycle art material for charity.
Initiated by Kabir Abdulrazak, the museum’s Head of Operations, and Fatema Sorore, the museum’s Head of Events, the project raised over QR12,000 last year through the sale of tote bags. The project was so successful that the museum has added customised cushions to its list of recycled art material.
Made from art collateral used in the Heritage of Art Diplomacy exhibition (at Museum of Islamic Art in 2013), the limited edition cushions come in two sizes and feature original art material used in the exhibition.
Cushions will be available for sale alongside a selection of limited edition tote bags created from the Art of Travel exhibition collateral.
Sorore said the project “brings recycled graphic banners to life. It’s a creative way to re-use materials and raise money for Qatar Charity.
“Plus each bag and cushion is unique. You won’t find another one like it,” Sorore added.
Orientalist Museum market stall will be open from noon to 7pm.
