NICOSIA: The Cypriot cabinet appointed a panel of three ex-supreme court judges Thursday to investigate whether criminal activity was involved in the island's banking meltdown, a presidential aide said.
The panel would look at whether there are "criminal, civil and political responsibilities" to answer for, undersecretary to the president Constantinos Petrides told reporters.
"The whole range of decisions, acts or omissions at all levels -- political decisions, to the decisions of the boards of banks and supervisors and all others that the committee considers -- should be investigated," he added.
The members of the panel are George Pikis, Panayiotis Kallis and Yiannakis Constantinides. (AFP)
