DOHA: More than 80 percent of respondents to an online survey have called on to upgrade procedures for issuing licences for buildings here, citing long delays in the current setup as a major problem.
In the weekly online survey conducted by Al Sharq, 82 percent of respondents said that the system for issuing licences for buildings should be upgraded. Nine percent of the respondents said the existing system worked fine while the remaining nine percent did not express views.
Jamal Abdullah Al Suaidi, a local businessman, said that it takes months for processing a license for a building.
“The procedure requires maps, insurance and security money among other items for housing or commercial facilities. There are many hindrances that the applicants face in this setup as even a minor modification in the plan can take a long while to finally settle,” Al Suaidi said. He said that the Municipality Engineering Office should be given full right to issue licences.
“This would save time of the applicants in many ways,” he said.
Rashid Al Mirri, meanwhile, called on for smart licensing. “The entire procedure should be conducted online. It would also help in keeping a track of licences issued and to follow up on updates,” Al Mirri said.
