Doha, Qatar: The Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan) welcomed a delegation from the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), headed by Secretary-General Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, during a visit to the Kibar Al Qadr Majlis (Valued Elderly Majlis) at Katara Cultural Village.
The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation and highlight Ehsan’s role in empowering older persons and safeguarding their rights.
The delegation was given an introductory tour of Valued Elderly Majlis, where they reviewed key programmes and initiatives implemented by Ehsan. These initiatives aim to enhance the quality of life, promote active community participation, and raise awareness on issues affecting older persons.
The visit also featured extensive discussions on strengthening collaboration between the two sides to support national initiatives related to elderly rights. Both parties explored opportunities for knowledge exchange in awareness and community education, as well as best practices that reinforce the status of older persons in society.
In a statement, Manal Ahmed Al Mannai, Executive Director of Ehsan, described the visit as an important step toward enhancing institutional integration and unifying efforts to support and empower older persons while protecting their rights.
She added that the visit reflects growing recognition of the elderly’s role in society and showcases Ehsan’s impactful initiatives, aligned with national priorities to uphold dignity and respect.
Al Mannai emphasised that Ehsan will continue to develop its programmes and services in partnership with relevant entities to improve the quality of life for older persons and strengthen their role as a key component of social development.
Al Jamali praised Ehsan’s significant role in supporting older persons, noting that Qatar places high priority on their healthcare and psychological well-being. He highlighted the deep-rooted cultural and religious values that emphasize respect and care for the elderly, further reinforced by national laws and international agreements.
Al Jamali also welcomed the prospect of strengthening cooperation between the National Human Rights Committee and Ehsan, pointing to shared goals and previous joint initiatives, including participation in global, regional, and national events dedicated to older persons.
He called for formalising this cooperation through a memorandum of understanding to establish a strategic framework for future collaboration.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to enhance partnerships and institutional integration, ultimately enhancing the quality of services provided to older persons and fostering a supportive environment that ensures a dignified and stable life for them.
