Kabul: Afghan defence ministry on Sunday announced that Afghan national army soldiers had conducted over 2,000 military operations across the country in the current month.
According to a statement released by the ministry’s media office, Afghan soldiers conducted about 2,224 operations in various parts of the country.
The ministry said at least 443 militants were killed during operations and 581 were injured or detained.
The statement added that over 100 soldiers were also killed in operations.
There has been a surge in militants attacks across the country, including capital Kabul, since the Taliban group announced its summer offensive.
According to Afghan defence officials, Taliban militants have deployed a large number of fighters to Afghanistan after closing their religious madrasas in Pakistan.
“Based on our information, Taliban have closed all their religious madrasas in Pakistan,” Defence Ministry spokesman General Zahir Azimi told reporters in Kabul last week.
“The rebels have deployed all their fighters in Afghanistan to carry out insurgency and suicide attacks,” he added.
