DOHA: Kuwaiti box office hit Tora Bora, directed by Walid Alawadi, will be screened on July 4 and 5 at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Auditorium as part of Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) year round series Hekayat Khaleejiya.

The screening of the award-winning film will be followed by an extended Q&A session with the lead actor Saad Al Faraj.

Tora Bora is the journey of elderly parents in search for their youngest son, who leaves Kuwait to join militant forces in Afghanistan.

The elderly parents are not prepared for the suffering and darkness they encounter on their journey through the war-torn country, while their elder son attempts to find his parents and his brother with the aid of Pakistani intelligence. Tora Bora is a film about how the mistakes of a son can lead to hardships for an entire family in the Arab society.

The film was screened at the 2011 Cannes Film Market and won three awards at the 2013 GCC Film Festival, including Best Feature Film, Best Music and Best Actor for Saad Al Faraj. It also won the Special Jury Award at the Gulf Film Festival in 2012.

Award-winning filmmaker Walid Alawadi will also be present at the screenings. His work includes the documentary ‘A Moment of Time’, which was named Best International Film at the Houston Film Festival and his 9/11 documentary ‘Dreams without Sleep’, which screened at Cannes in 2005.

Tickets are now on sale online at www.dohafilminstitute.com/hekayat and at the DFI Ticket Outlet at the MIA (across the auditorium) on July 4 from 12pm to 8pm and July 5 from 2pm to 8pm.

Tickets are priced at QR35 and QR25 for students.
