Doha: Noted Islamic scholar Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi has condemned the massacre by the Egyptian army in Rabaa Al Adwiya, urging Egyptians to come out with their families and demonstrate against what he said were killers in uniform.

Addressing the Egyptian people on Al Jazeera, Al Qaradawi called on Muslims across the world to stand up against the atrocities of the military in Egypt.

According to media reports, nearly 66 people have been killed and 4,000 injured in clashes between the Muslim Brotherhood supporters and the military near the Rabaa Al Adwiya mosque in Cairo.

“Any Egyptian who fears Allah and prays for peace and loves Egypt will come to Rabaa Al Adwiya and will stand bravely against the killers,” he said.

Calling Egyptian Christians as his brothers, he said only Muslims in the country could protect you.

“Peaceful demonstrators will not be deterred by what happened yesterday.

“They will not hesitate to sacrifice their lives.”

Al Qaradawi called on the United Nations, Arab League, the Organisation of Islamic Conference  states, and the African Union to condemn the massacre and those who perpetrated it.

He also urged the Saudi King to condemn the killings.

He criticised the Egyptian media, which he said was deceiving the people.

Al Qaradawi urged the Sheikh of Al Azhar University, Ahmed Al Tayyeb, to review his stance in favour of the military, while also calling on the military to stop killing innocent people.

The scholar described Abdul Fatah El Sisi’s recent call asking Egyptians to come out and demonstrate in his support as haraam.

This, he said, would incite more violence in the country.

“The people should instead resist the military coup in Egypt,” he said.
