Doha: RL Moore astride The Gurkha stole the limelight at the Qatar Goodwood Festival yesterday by winning the Qatar Sussex Stakes at Sussex countryside, yesterday.
According to information made available here, representing Ireland at the coveted event, three-year-old The Ghurkha, trained by AP O’Brien overcame Galileo Gold to confirm the winner’s purse of £560,200.
Galileo Gold, ridden by L Dettori and trained by H Palmer claimed second position to secure the runner-up prize of £213,300. Another Irish entry, Ribchester ridden by James Doyle took third position to secure £106,800 for his side.
Today, the third day of the event will be the Ladies’ Day, which is the most glamorous one of the meeting.
The Group 2 Qatar Goodwood Cup is the highlight of the seven race card and now worth £300,000.
And with two further Group races, the competition on track will be fierce.
The Ladies Day’ will be followed by further two days of action which will see the riders grabbing coveted titles.
