Wroclaw: Qatar’s beach handball team reached the quarter-finals of the 10th World Games, after a brilliant 2-1 win against strong Brazilians yesterday.
Despite its defeat in the first half 22-23, Qatari national team made a strong comeback in the second half to secure a win 17-16 before beating Brazil 9-6 on penalties.
The victory secured the Qataris the top position of Group B with three wins against Australia (2-0) and Uruguay (2-0). Today, in the quarter-final match, Qatari team will meet Egypt who were placed fourth in Group A, which also included Croatia, Hungary and Poland.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Qatar defeated Australia 2-0 (17/15 and 17/16) before overcoming Uruguay 2-0 (30/7 and 22/18) in the second match.
The World Games is hosted by the Polish city of Wroclaw and will conclude on Sunday.
Qatar were ranked fourth in the previous edition of the World Games, which was held in Colombia in 2013 after losing 1-2 to Croatia in the third-place playoff.
