DOHA: Seventy percent of the work on flyovers and underpasses in Al Shamal has been carried out, according to companies implementing the development project.
Construction companies say the flyovers and the project will be finished by the middle of next year, Al Sharq reported.
Currently, motorists are facing problems due to diversions on Al Shamal Road, which many say are complicated, especially the roads that go inside the Al Shamal area. They have suggested that signs be put up on the roads to guide drivers. They also complain of narrow roads that require motorists to drive slowly.
The flyovers’ bases are already in place and asphalting of the roads has begun. Construction of service roads vital to Al Shamal Road, which is used by heavy trucks, has also started. The project includes building service points and petrol stations on both sides of the road.
People have urged a review of the design of one of the flyovers, which they say is complex and could pose problems for motorists. The flyover in Umm Al Ahmed has a market underneath, and shoppers will park on the flyover, which could lead to traffic jams. People are wondering why some of the flyovers have signals and intersections.
