TOKYO: Japan, one of the major buyers of Iranian crude, is set to import about 30 percent less crude oil from Iran for the rest of this year compared to a year earlier, Yasushi Kimura, president of the Petroleum Association of Japan (PAJ), said on Friday.

Despite a 66.8 percent year-on-year dip in imports in August due in part to shipping arrangements to comply with European Union sanctions on Tehran, Japan, which Kimura said is cutting Iranian crude imports by about 30 percent now, is set to continue importing at that pace until December, he told reporters in Tokyo.

Kimura also serves as chairman of Japan's top oil refiner, JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp. (Reuters)
