Philippine School to kick off 20th Foundation Day activities today

DOHA: The Philippine School Doha (PSD) will celebrate its 20th Foundation Day which will kick off today at Al Rayyan Sports Club with another edition of colourful activities.

Taking pride as the leading Filipino educational institution in Qatar, PSD carries this year’s theme “PSD@20:Moving Towards Global Competence” with officials keeping their hopes alive to pursue more of its academic excellence.

Guests and visitors will witness the Field Demonstration by students of all grade levels at Al Rayyan Sports Club simultaneously with the grand opening of PSD Olympics 2012.

PSD has been celebrating Intramurals and Foundation Day at different times of the year. This was, however, converged this year to showcase PSD’s achievements of being the leader in all fields of interests aiming to be the first Philippine Science School in the Middle East.

Dr Alexander S Acosta said that PSD at 20 is still growing and vibrant as it continues to faces more challenges. “PSD should look at the past with gratitude and celebrate the present with enthusiasm and look at the future with hope,” Acosta said.

This year’s host, Intermediate Department, headed by its coordinator Paulita D Pal has lined up a slew of events with various activities to be held at different locations across Qatar. A showcase of the different highlights of the world’s seven continents will be held in PSD Mini-Hall. Along with other special activities and contests for young and old alike, noted English and Filipino films will also highlight the occasion with a two-day cinema festival in the 1st  floor of Building 4; Grade 4 wing.

Foundation Day Programme and Community Day are to be held in the school on October 5 which involves the participation of parents, children and well-known personalities of the Filipino community. 

It will also highlight the unveiling of a miniature model of the PSD new building by PSD’s founding parents. 

PSD still waits for the approval of the projected PSD building design from the Supreme Education Council (SEC). The institution is continuously pleading for support from everyone to take a pledge to build the much anticipated new PSD campus to cater for more students

Wrapping up of celebration is “The Luau Themed Family Fun Day”, where students and family members will have bonding moments at Aqua Park Resort on October 6 from 10am to 2pm. Rap singing and the ‘Battle of the Bands’ will  showcase the talents of selected PSD students to be followed by the Annual Employees’ Night with this year’s Luau Party celebration. The Peninsula
