DOHA: Qafco participated in the 7th Annual Gulf Petrochemical Association (GPCA) fertiliser convention held in Dubai, from September 6 to 8. This year the conference focused on the theme – ‘Steering the fertiliser industry through challenging times’.
The 7th GPCA Fertiliser Convention has been designed to provide the global and regional fertiliser industry with the most current industry information and to address the challenges and growth opportunities that are present in the market.

With energy, feedstock and product prices at low levels, production economics of all fertiliser products has shifted. Environmental concerns and increasing crop yields in different parts of the world have caused demand growth for fertilisers to slow while in other regions new potential market opportunities arise.

During event, a variety of different high-level industry executives presented their views on the market and discussed various potential opportunities in the market. Each year, the conference attracts scores of delegates, from leading producers, buyers, distributors and service providers to government agencies and academia — making it one of the most popular fertiliser event in the Middle East for networking and doing business.

As part of Qafco’s Corporate Social Responsibility, the compnay used the meeting to provide opportunities for Qatari students to develop their knowledge and have greater insights of the industry dynamics. Qafco sponsored students of Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) to the conference.

Abdulrahman M Al Suwaidi, Qafco CEO said, “There is no doubt that the future of this company and country, is in the hands of our Qatari youth. Consequently, it is imperative that we equip and prepare them to be high-quality leaders. At Qafco, we engage with Qatari youth at every stage of their education and early careers in educating them about our industry and bringing them into the Qafco family.”

Dr. Hamed Al Marwani, Chief Administration Officer, Qafco said, “I see this as a tremendous opportunity for the students to interact and learn from the some biggest leaders”.

Maryam Mattar, Acting Public Relations Manager, Qafco said, “It has been a fantastic experience to have our students at the convention so far. I know that they have greatly benefitted from the exposure.”
