DOHA: A ‘Know India’ seminar was held yesterday to create awareness about various types of tourism and attract more Qatari and expatriate tourists from Qatar.
It was organized by the Indian embassy in Doha and India Tourism, Dubai, showcasing the availability of tourism opportunities across India.
It was attended by representatives from the travel industry and provided a glimpse into attractive tourism products and countless cultural, spiritual and travel experiences India offers as a tourist destination.
The seminar highlighted that India offers something for everyone and is an incredible destination.
“The number of visas from Qatar is increasing, especially during the Eid season. We see a sharp increase in the number of visa applications,” said Indian Ambassador Sanjiv Arora.
He said the number of tourists to India from the GCC had increased by 25 percent.
Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Tawar Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman, Qatar Chamber, and Manas Pattanaik, Regional Director, India Tourism (Dubai), were also present.
As a good choice for medical tourism, India’s world-class hospitals with latest technology, highly skilled physicians and surgeons, low cost of treatment, excellent quality of care and nursing, comparatively less waiting time for availing of medical services, and traditional healthcare therapies such as ayurveda and yoga were also highlighted.
India provides tourist visa on arrival for citizens from Cambodia, Finland, Indonesia, Japan, Luxembourg, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, New Zealand, Singapore and Vietnam. It is available at eight airports. Tourists in groups of four or more sponsored by Indian travel agencies approved by the Ministry of Tourism with a pre-drawn itinerary are granted collective landing permits for up to 60 days, with multiple entry facilities to enable them to visit neighbouring countries.
