DOHA: Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, is accepting online applications for admission to Translation and Interpreting Institute’s (TII) Master in Translation Studies (MATS) and Audiovisual Translation (MAAT).
Applicants can apply via http://www.tii.qa/postgraduate/
TII will offer the programmes starting in September 2015. MATS programme has been accredited by University of Geneva.
MATS is a two-year programme to train highly skilled translators from the private sector, and provide training in translation for international organisations. It focuses on translation of written documents and offers courses in translation technologies and research methodologies.
It also provides students with work placement experience, equipping them with a foundation they will need for success in the professional and academic arena.
The two-year MAAT offers students a varied curriculum, including introductory and advanced subtitling and dubbing, creating voice-overs, and media translation.
It teaches students subtitling for the hearing impaired, audio-description for the visually impaired, and the selection and adaptation of translation technologies for the needs of different language communities. TII invites engaged, ambitious and diligent individuals seeking intellectual and professional development opportunities to submit applications by March 1, 2015.
Eligible applicants will have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree from a nationally or internationally accredited institution, or are scheduled to graduate before August 1, 2015. Students must demonstrate a strong command of English and Arabic.
Applicants are required to submit university transcripts, English proficiency test reports, a detailed résumé and a copy of their passport. Applicants are also required to complete an admissions essay on topics related to different fields of translation. The Peninsula
