Qatar pays special attention to sports

New York: The State of Qatar has confirmed that it pays special attention to sports, noting in this regard that it successfully hosted major sporting events.
Qatar emphasised its firm belief in the importance of the role of sport in promoting dialogue between cultures, peace and development.
This came in a statement of the State of Qatar delivered by Abdullah Khalifa Al Suwaidi, member of Qatar's delegation participating in the 70th session of the UN General Assembly on item entitled "Sport for Peace and Development: Building a Peaceful and Better World Through Sport and the Olympic Ideal. October."
The statement pointed out that the State of Qatar is hosting Doha 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships which aims of integrating all members of the society to participate in community development.
The statement also noted that the document, entitled "Transforming our World: The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development", stressed that sport is one of the important enabling elements of sustainable development.
In the framework of consolidating Qatar National Vision 2030, the statement said the State of Qatar has adopted a National Sport Day in the second Tuesday of February each year.
It pointed out that the Sports Day seeks to achieve this through the adoption of best practices and means to broaden the base of community participation in the sport, and to increase the active participation rates, and provide an opportunity for all members of the Qatari society to practice activities gives them happiness and activity, and the dissemination of sports culture.
The statement noted that many General Assembly resolutions addressed to building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal, as was also noted the importance of sport as a means to promote education, health, development and peace.
