DOHA: The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs will launch the first national database on people with disabilities and the elderly next month.
Najat Al Abdullah, Director, Department of Elderly and People with Disabilities, said the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H E Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi will launch it on January 18.
It will be the starting point to accurately assess the number of people in both categories to provide them with the required services, she added. Al Abdullah was addressing a seminar being held to discuss issues related to the elderly and people with disabilities. The ministry has set up a committee to study recommendations of the four-day meeting which ends on Tuesday.
DOHA: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has lifted the ban on Al Furqan for Haj and Omrah operations imposed earlier this year, the company said yesterday.
The firm has been permitted to continue operations during this Haj and Omrah season. The decision was approved by Saudi authorities, said a statement issued by the company. The ministry imposes temporary ban on tour operators organising Haj and Umrah trips following complaints from pilgrims about their services. The ban is imposed after an assessment of their performance and could be lifted once the erring firm rectify the errors.
DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has closed down a cafeteria at the Doha Port for selling white fish (samak al abyad) as fresh hamour. Hamour is one of the favourites of citizens.
