LAHORE: The government of Pakistan’s populous Punjab province has announced that all public and private schools in the province will now open on January 12, instead of January 2, due to security reasons.
The date has been extended to ensure full security arrangements at the schools, including the raising of their walls and hiring and detailing of security guards.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has ordered implementation of a plan devised for security at schools, colleges and universities.
Presiding over a meeting over the weekend, the chief minister reviewed security arrangements and overall law and order situation in the province. He said protection of life and property of people was the responsibility of the state and all possible steps had been taken for this purpose.
He directed the authorities concerned to ensure implementation of a plan evolved for security in all educational institutes. He said the institutes should also coordinate with the authorities. He said action without any discrimination should be taken against those spreading provocative literature and material.
