Doha: Qatar’s Mousa and Mubarak Shanan claimed the title of doubles event at the 2016 Gulf Tennis Cup held in Al Fujairah.
In the final match, the Qatari duo defeated Kuwait’s Abdullah Yaqoub and Abdulhameed Mahboub 6-7(3) 7-6(9) 10-2, QOC reported.
In the semifinals, Mousa and Mubarak Shanan overpowered Omar Khalid Al Awadhi and Fahad Abbas Janahi of United Arab Emirates 2-0.
The delegation of the Qatari men’s team was chaired by Ibrahim Al Khelaifi, Deputy Head of National the Federation’s Teams Committee and included the coaches Younes Al Aynoui and Gonzalo Lorenzo in addition to the players Jabor Al Motawa, Mousa Shanan, Mubarak Shanan and Abdullah Shanan.
Earlier last week, the Qatari teams participated in the GCC Tennis Championship for Men and Juniors U18 and U14 years.
Qatar U18 years claimed the gold medal while Qatar Men’s and Qatar U14 years took the silver medals of their respective categories.
Khalid Al Khelaifi Board Member of the Qatari Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation congratulated the players and the members of Qatar’s delegation who made their nation proud after winning the doubles title.
"This new GCC achievement will serve as a big motivation for the players of the Qatari national teams and their technical and administrative staffs to accomplish more achievements in the upcoming events to be added to the huge successes of Qatari Tennis" Khalid Al Khelaifi said.
