DOHA: Chinese Ambassador Gao Youzhen, along with Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker, yesterday officially opened the Chinese pavilion at Hamad International Airport’s (HIA) duty free area.
Keith Hunter, Senior Vice- President, Qatar Duty Free (QDF), welcomed the ambassador to the bespoke-built pavilion created to mark Chinese New Year.
Han Wang, General Manager, UnionPay International Middle East, also attended the ceremony, offering support to an innovative promotion by QDF, which includes a QR100 gift voucher for clients who make a purchase of QR1,000 or $274 and above, using a UnionPay payment card.
“We are delighted to officially open QDF’s Chinese Pavilion at HIA today,” said Al Baker. “This is the first year we have celebrated Chinese New Year at our new airport, and I am proud of what we have achieved with this luxurious area, promoted to create gifts for the holidays in China.”
The QDF Chinese New Year pavilion is behind the iconic teddy bear in the departures hall.
The 180sqm pavilion has been built especially for Chinese New Year and remains at the airport until February-end.
Youzhen and Al Baker cut the ribbon to open the pavilion.
Hunter said, “We are honoured to see the ambassador here today for the opening of our pavilion. China is an important market for QDF and every year we try to go the extra mile by providing more exciting promotions and activities for our Chinese customers.”
