The third Halal Hal Qatar is showcasing various breeds of goats and sheep raised in Qatar and other GCC countries.
The ten-day event organised by Katara aims to revive animal trade in Qatar and educate the new generation of Qataris on this aspect of their heritage. A highlight of the festival is the Al Mazayen competition, a beauty pageant in which the best sheep and goat are picked. The owners of the winning animals receive cash prizes.
The festival, which ends on Monday, also features a traditional Qatari house, a play area for children, an Arabian tent where people can sample Arabic coffee, and a traditional market selling handicrafts and other local products.
