DOHA: The sixth Gulf Nuclear Medicine Conference formally launched Arab Society of Nuclear Medicine yesterday.
It aims to have members from all Arab countries, including radiologists and physicians interested in nuclear medicine, said Dr Akram AlIbraheem, Chairman  of the society.
The non-profit society is based on the principle of equality of all members, with scientific, social and professional scope. Its preliminary constitution was drafted during the conference and its main goals include fostering co-operation between nuclear medicine and molecular imaging professionals, groups and societies active in the field of nuclear medicine in the Arab world.
“The society will promote the development of nuclear medicine in the Arab World,” said Dr AlIbraheem, also Head, Nuclear Medicine & PET/CT Department, King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan.
“We are also finalising the curriculum to certify nuclear medicine practitioners in the Arab world,” he added.
During the review meeting of the regional ARASIA project (Strengthening Nuclear Medicine Applications through Education and Training to Help Fighting Non-Communicable Diseases) in Vienna in November 2014, the society was established by representatives of Arab countries participating in the project. The founders designated the executive committee to launch the society in the Arab world. The Peninsula
