Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) held its Ordinary General Assembly for 2026 on Thursday at its conference hall, with President Mohammed bin Saad Al Mughaiseeb, board members, club representatives, and a delegate from the Qatar Olympic Committee in attendance.
Al Mughaiseeb outlined ongoing preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, describing the tournament as a key milestone for the country’s sporting ambitions and a clear sign of its capacity to host major global events.
The Assembly reviewed progress across domestic competitions and national team participation on the international stage. Members approved the 2025-2026 sports calendar, which features a full schedule of local tournaments alongside regional and international commitments.
Plans for 2026 include targeted development programs, with a focus on training table officials ahead of the 2027 World Cup. The Federation also confirmed the launch of a new AI-powered official website, marking a shift toward digital operations.
Officials noted that the Federation has adopted a 2025-2030 strategy aimed at long-term growth, performance standards, and Olympic values.
The meeting also stressed the need to expand women’s basketball and increase opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
On the sidelines, Board member Abdulrahman Hamad Al Mannai stepped down from his position, while Nasser Ajlan Al Kaabi was appointed in his place.
