DOHA: About 80 percent of the companies are abiding by the Labour law and the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs geared up to make those left behind comply with the law, a senior ministry official has said.
“About 80 percent of the companies abide by the provisions of the labour law and the remaining (20 percent) might be violating the law because they are not aware of the rules,” said Khalid Al Ghanam, Head of the Work Inspection Department at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs.
He was speaking at an event for expatriate workers held here yesterday by the ministry to mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
Most of those companies running behind are ready to rectify their errors after warnings are issued by the ministry.
The inspection team makes regular and surprise inspections to the companies and labor camps. The erring companies are caught and penalised in a bid to secure the health and safety of the workers.
The trained inspectors visit the worksites and facilities of the company to ensure the occupational health and safety of the works, he added.
