Islamabad: Navy forces of the UAE and Pakistan have concluded a one-week joint exercise in northern Arabian Sea as part of efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation, UAE state news agency WAM reported citing a Pakistan navy statement issued on Monday.
The exercise featured several activities such as anti-piracy operations, search and rescue, maritime air operations, exchange of expertise and raising combat capacities, the statement said. The manoeuvres were aimed at upgrading and exchanging military experience between two countries.

46 militants killed in raids
Kabul: At least 46 Taliban militants were killed in joint operations launched by Afghan forces and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) during the past 24 hours in different regions of the country.
Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry said in a statement today that Afghan forces carried out with ISAF several joint operations in different regions of the country killing 46 Taliban militants, wounding 10 and arresting 26 others.
The statement added that the security forces seized large quantities of heavy and light weapons.
4,561 seats up in local polls
QUETTA: More than 25,000 candidates have obtained application forms for 4,561 seats in the second phase of the local body elections in Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan bordering Afghanistan and Iran.
“It is surprising that 25,000 candidates obtained application forms across Balochistan,” says Sultan Bayazeed, the election commissioner of Balochistan.
The candidates are able to submit their forms until today. The election will take place on May 29. In the second phase of the polls, there are a total 4,561 seats including 2,332 seats for women, and five each for minorities, peasants, social workers and labourers.
Bayazeed said each elected councillor could vote for four candidates. “The returning officers were running out of forms because there were thousands of candidates. We printed more forms,” he said.
