Doha: Manroe Samuel Jr overshadowed Bolds Demarius Armond as Al Gharafa booked their place into the final of Qatar Basketball Cup following a thrilling 82-77 victory over Al Rayyan in the semi-final, here at the Al Gharafa Club yesterday.
In-form Samuel was the star with 27 points to give edge to his side in the tightly-contested first semi-final match.
On the other hand, Armond’s 26 points for Al Rayyan went in vain as his side failed to reach the final of the coveted tournament.
Both the teams were locked 21-21 in the first quarter while Al Gharafa took a slim lead of 43-41 as the match reached half-time.
Al Rayyan continued to fight to end the deficit but Al Gharafa held their nerves well to continue leading. They were leading 60-57 ahead of the final session.
Al Gharafa saved their best for the last quarter and dominated their opponents to claim a well deserved 82-77 victory and a place in the final which will be played tomorrow at the Al Gharafa Club.
