DOHA: Plumbing works in Qatar will be standardised with implementation of the proposed Qatar Plumbing Code, an official of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation — Kahramaa — has said.
A feasibility study to implement the code matching global standards continues, Engineer Ali Mohammed Al Ali, Manager, Conservation and Energy Efficiency Department, told  the Qatar News Agency.
“The code will ensure standardisation of plumbing works, gadgets and fixtures matching international standards and best practices,” Ali said on the side-lines of the Second Arab Water Conference and Exhibition at Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The study aims at assessing all aspects of plumbing works like quality, efficiency and durability and prepare the code that will be soon implemented, he said.
“Once the code is implemented, no plumbing work or gadget that does not confirm to it will be allowed,” Ali said.
He reiterated Qatar’s push through Tarsheed to spread awareness on using energy responsibly and conserve national resources.
“The National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency has taken the lead to co-ordinate efforts of all sectors and ensure everyone is accountable for water and electricity consumption,” said Ali.
Tarsheed was launched by Kahramaa under the patronage of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on April 22, 2012 to consume water and electricity efficiently.
Tarsheed also aims at cutting down per capita consumption of electricity by 20 percent and water by 35 percent in the next five years. QNA
