DOHA: United Development Company (UDC), master developer of The Pearl-Qatar, has completed studies and assessment for construction of two additional mosques on the island.
The mosques in the vicinity of the Qatar Cool plant and Isola Dana islets will accommodate up to 300 worshipers each, UDC said yesterday.
Each mosque will have a ground floor as praying area, an upper floor for staff, including the Imam, and support services in an overall area of 1,080sqm.
Work covers electro-mechanical services and associated external schemes, including paved walkways and the main sanctuary, in conformity with standards and specifications set by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
Technical submissions related to the design and construction are being reviewed by the UDC Tenders Committee. The winning bidders will be announced by mid-June.
UDC is also working on the expansion of the Grand Mosque at the island’s entrance, to allow more people to pray. Renovation will include raising the mosque’s capacity from 1,200 worshippers to 3,000.
