St Petersburg: Qatar has underlined that energy sources mix would contribute effectively to ensuring sustainable development and safety power supply for the people.
Speaking at the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century, currently in session here, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri noted that the nuclear energy can be a great source of energy when elements of safety and nuclear security have been internationally ensured.
“Nuclear energy remains to be the most able option to respond to the escalating alternative energy sources. The expansion of nuclear energy must be considered accurately as risks arising from error or lack of safety or disasters or terrorist acts would be disastrous and lead to a setback for expansion plans,” he said, calling for security and nuclear safety as highest priority.
Al Mansouri stressed the need to enhance international and regional cooperation in all phases of construction and operation of nuclear reactors, calling for activating all related treaties and agreements on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and security, including the non-proliferation treaty and the convention on nuclear safety.
