MANILA: The Department of Health yesterday confirmed a mosquito-borne viral disease outbreak in Patnongon town, Antique. In his Twitter account, Assistant Secretry Eric Tayag said 313 cases of chikungunya had been reported since April. No deaths have been reported so far, he said.
Four bandits killed in Sulu
ZAMBOANGA City: At least four Abu Sayyaf militants were killed and five wounded in air and ground attacks in Patikul, Sulu, Colonel Jose Joriel Cenabre, commander of the 2nd Marine Brigade and the Sulu Task Force, said. The assault was launched after the bandits fired at army helicopters on logistic run in Barangay Tambang. Fighting continued for several hours as marines pounded the hostile position of the bandits.
Seven arrested with shabu
MANILA: Police yesterday arrested seven people with shabu in Batangas province. Armed with a search warrant from Lemery Regional Trial Court branch 5, Batangas police intelligence and Public Safety Command raided seven houses in Barangay Magihan, Lemery, and recoverd an undetermined amount of shabu and firearms.
Caloocan fire claims toddler
MANILA: A two-year-old boy, left with two other children, was killed in a fire in their house in Caloocan City on Wednesday night. Mark Joshua Sabado was found dead in a corner of the house. The fire started at anpit 9pm near 7th Avenue in Barangay 122, said Senior Fire Officer and investigator Benedicto Tudla.
