Washington: US President Donald Trump called on Sunday morning for an agreement on the Gaza Strip, noting that the Israeli side "right now" was in the process of negotiating a deal with Hamas.

"Make the deal in Gaza. Get the hostages back", Trump posted on Truth Social, noting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in the process of negotiating a deal with Hamas that includes the release of hostages.

This call comes as the Israeli army announced that its attacks would escalate in several areas, especially in and around Gaza City.

The US President had predicted on Friday that a ceasefire agreement would be reached in the Gaza Strip "within this week", stressing that the situation in Gaza was "catastrophic".
