Doha: The Consumer Protection Department of the Ministry of Business and Trade has seized as many as 15,000 ‘counterfeit building materials’ that had labels of Stanley, an Italian brand, the Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.

Inspections were carried out on stores of two companies in the Industrial Area in which more than 15,000 counterfeit goods were seized, the Ministry of Economy and Trade said. The companies were found to be violating the provisions of the Qatari law on consumer protection.

The Director of the Consumer Protection Department, Sheikh Jassim bin Jabor bin Hassan Al Thani, said the ministry would take all procedures against anyone who does not adhere with its provisions stipulated by Law No. 8 for the year 2008 on consumer protection and its executive regulations  for the protection of the consumers rights.

He said that consumers should choose high-quality goods, especially for building materials and electrical appliances, adding that the counterfeit  and adulterated materials will cause damage to human life and warned companies and stores from selling such materials.

He said that the fraud section at the ministry will carry out inspection campaigns so as to seize such counterfeit materials and to refer anyone who violates the law to the authorities, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
