KABUL: At least five people were killed following a suspected US drone strike in Northern Waziristan tribal region near the Afghan border, according to Pakistani intelligence officials.
The officials further added, the airstrike was carried out in Shawal area of Northern Waziristan on Sunday night, according to Afghan's Khaama Press.
At least two missiles were fired and targeted suspected men who crossed into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan, the intelligence officials said adding that the identity of the men killed in airstrike is not clear so far.
North Waziristan is home to a mix of Pakistani, Afghan and al-Qaeda-linked foreign militants.
Attacks by unmanned American aircraft are deeply unpopular in Pakistan, but Washington views them as a vital tool in the fight against Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants in the lawless tribal areas along the border with Afghanistan.
The strike was the third one in July. The previous strike occurred July 13, killing at least 17 people, also in North Waziristan. (QNA)
