Expat jailed for stealing watches and laptops

DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced an expatriate to three years in jail and ordered him to be deported after serving the prison term for stealing 22 expensive branded watches, several pens and four laptops from a home.

Details of the case suggest that the owner of the burgled house had locked it safely before he left. He told the police a group of Ashghal (Public Woks Authority) workers was inside his villa compound engaged in some work when he left.

He said when he returned home he saw a door and a window open. “I rushed in and was shocked to find 22 branded watches, four laptops and some expensive pens missing.”

He said he lodged a police complaint. The police found fingerprints on the glass panes of the window that was open. The burglar had also left a cigarette butt near the window.

The police caught him on the basis of the fingerprints. Charges were filed against him after necessary investigations but he denied in the court he was involved in any theft.
