DOHA: The Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (Raf) has launched an initiative to win the release of Qatari citizens jailed for failing to repay loans.

Raf has set up a fund to get the loan defaulters freed, and priority will be given to women, Dr Yahya bin Hamad Al Naimi, Acting Director General of Raf, said at a press conference yesterday.

Citizens can benefit from this campaign only if it is proved that they have no means to repay their loans. In addition, if they had suffered any losses, their business should not have been against Islamic teachings.

Only cases of individuals who do not have a history of loan defaults will be taken up by Raf.

The move aims to bring back smiles on the faces of family members of the prisoners before Eid Al Adha.

Raf is one of the foundations in Qatar concerned with humanitarian work for relief and social development, both locally and internationally.

In all its humanitarian interventions initiatives, it has a clear vision and a noble message that does not discriminate in the form of gender, nationality or culture.

To ensure the success of its message, Raf has adopted the values of humanity, quality, neutrality and universality. Raf also establishes humanitarian partnerships with different foundations who share the same goal, as a formative and executive mechanism to achieve local and international programmes and projects.
