NORTH COTABATO: Two persons were killed and six hurt after a speeding passenger van slammed into a trailer truck parked along the Cotabato-Davao Highway in Pigcawayan town, yesterday noon.
Police are yet to identify the dead — the driver of the van and the front seat passenger, both of whom died on the spot.
Responding members of the Pigcawayan municipal police and barangay officials rushed the injured van passengers to a hospital in Midsayap town, some 20 kilometres northeast of Pigcawayan.
Milk tea ‘poisoning’ probed
ILOILO CITY: A 27-year-man died while 34 were hospitalised after showing symptoms of food poisoning.
All of the victims had consumed milk tea with milk pudding or ‘leche flan’ from September 24 and 25 that they had bought from an outlet in Mandurriao district. The patients were treated at St Paul’s Hospital, Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital, and St Therese-MTCC Hospital after reportedly suffering stomach pain, dizziness, vomiting, and weakness. Of the 34, nine were still in hospital.
One killed in Quezon smash-up
TAYABAS CITY: Members of Iglesia Ni Cristo attending their centennial countdown and medical outreach mission here got stranded when nine vehicles were involved in a smash-up along the Maharlika Highway at the Tayabas-Lucena City boundary yesterday morning, leaving one dead and six wounded. Police said a trailer truck lost control, causing the smash-up with four buses and four other vehicles.
Police identified the dead person as Delfin Velasco, 54, and those injured as Ligaya Bayona, 60, and her daughter Ellie Rose, Raymond Concepcion, John Martoni, Mylene Maala and her daughter Dominga.
