DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has intensified inspections at beauty salons and other commercial outlets ahead of Eid Al Adha. The campaign is mainly intended to ensure that the outlets don’t increase the prices cashing in on the high demand during the holidays. The ministry said yesterday that the surprise raids ended in action against 37 women’s salons, where 16 violations of the consumer protection law were detected.
The violations included using expired and substandard products, failure to display the pricelist prominently for information of the customers and offering promotions without approval from the authorities concerned.
Some salons displayed the price list only in English, although it is supposed to be shown in both Arabic and English. The Ministry said that in the next phase, the inspections will focus on shops selling sweets and nuts, men’s salons, textile shops and traditional restaurants.
