Doha, Qatar: As part of its efforts to discover new talents in Arabic calligraphy, the organising committee of the Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition has launched a series of workshops in schools.  Ten students participated in the first week of the programme, which is organised by the committee in collaboration with the Sheikh Abdulla Bin Zaid Al-Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Center — the main organiser of the competition — in partnership with Qatar Museums, represented by the Museum of Islamic Art. The workshops are being coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

Students from Khalifa Secondary School and Doha Preparatory School for Boys showed great enthusiasm to participate and demonstrated remarkable performance, revealing the presence of promising talents in the field of Arabic calligraphy among students.

These talents need support and encouragement to continue developing this art form. The Al-Raqim competition aims to engage with the community and promote this art, which represents the nation’s visual and cultural identity and deeply reflects its heritage.

The Qatar International Arabic Calligraphy Competition, “Al-Raqim,” was launched last year and quickly gained an outstanding international reputation. It has organised several local events that revealed a strong desire among various segments of society to participate in and engage with the art of Arabic calligraphy.
