Doha: The Local Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 conducted a promotional campaign at Qatar House in Nagoya, Japan, drawing significant interest from visitors during the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026.
Held over three days on September 20, 23 and 29, the campaign aimed to raise awareness of the 2027 tournament and showcase the Naismith Trophy to senior Olympic officials, Asian sports icons, visitors to Qatar House, Asian Games athletes and fans.
The campaign also provided an opportunity to engage supporters of Asian teams that have qualified for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, which will be held in Doha.
The fan experience remains a key element of the Organizing Committee’s preparations, with the ambition for Qatar 2027 to extend beyond the matches and competitions inside the arenas and offer visitors a wider sporting and cultural experience.
Qatar hosting World Cup a historic milestone
Qatar 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee Director General Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al-Buainain said the campaign was helping Qatar connect with potential fans across Asia.
“We are leveraging the global reach of this campaign to raise awareness of the tournament and attract new fans from across Asia,” he said.
“We look forward to Qatar 2027 delivering organizational excellence and a sporting legacy that matches the high standards set by Qatar during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, while offering a comprehensive fan and sporting experience.”
Al-Buainain said Qatar’s hosting of the Basketball World Cup represented a historic milestone for the region.
“Qatar hosting the Basketball World Cup marks a historic milestone for the region, as it is the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to host this global event,” he said.
“It is a great honor and a responsibility we cherish, and a pledge to deliver a tournament that reflects Qatar’s capability to host major global championships.”
He added that all sports venues and facilities are fully prepared, while organizational, logistical and security plans have also been completed by the relevant working teams.
Deputy Director General of the Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Sheikh Tamim bin Fahad Al Thani said the upcoming period would focus on strengthening the tournament’s profile and engaging with basketball fans worldwide.
“As we approach the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, we are entering a crucial phase dedicated to enhancing fan engagement and interaction with the tournament,” he said.
“Our presence in Nagoya, amidst this major Asian sporting gathering, allows us to connect directly with fans from various nations, introduce them to what awaits in Qatar next year, and invite them to be part of this global experience.”
Sheikh Tamim said the ambition extends beyond staging a successful tournament.
“Our ambition extends beyond simply hosting a successful indoor tournament; we aim for Qatar 2027 to serve as a milestone that boosts the presence of basketball and expands its base of players and followers,” he said.
