Deputy Minister for International Trade of Finland, Under-Secretary of State H E Jarno Syrjälä
Doha, Qatar: The Deputy Minister for International Trade of Finland, Under-Secretary of State H E Jarno Syrjälä, is visiting Qatar from September 28-30 to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Qatar and Finland, in investments, education, security and defense.
Deputy Minister Syrjälä will be accompanied by Finnish representatives from the comprehensive security, resilience, and education, the Finland embassy in Doha said in a statement.
The visit provides an opportunity to deepen the relations between Finland and Qatar and identify cooperation opportunities supporting Qatar Vision 2030 and the country’s ambitions in human capital development, resilience, innovation and economic diversification.
Syrjälä praises Qatar Vision 2030’s focus on human capital, which creates opportunities for deeper education cooperation between Finland and Qatar. Finnish educational expertise and teaching methods have a presence in Qatar, particularly in the Qatar-Finland International School led in cooperation between EduCluster Finland and the Ministry of Education of Qatar.
The visit is joined by the Finnish National Agency for Education (EDUFI) to exchange information on ongoing initiatives and explore future cooperation
Security and defence will form another important part of the visit.
“Finland’s comprehensive security model offers a practical framework for strengthening national resilience. The Finnish approach places particular emphasis on cooperation across society and on ensuring that vital functions can continue during disruptions and crises. This resilience depends not only on physical infrastructure but also on secure digital systems, trusted information environments and access to critical technologies. Finland has developed internationally recognized expertise through cooperation between government, industry and research institutions. Finland sees opportunities to share its experience in comprehensive security with Qatar and, at the same time, to better understand Qatar’s own security and resilience priorities” said Deputy Minister Syrjälä.
At the Finland–Qatar Business Forum hosted by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Finnish expertise and solutions will be presented in the context of these priorities. The participating Finnish companies represent a broad range of expertise in areas including telecommunications, defence, satellite technology, space systems, civil protection, resilient infrastructure, shelters, and digital security. The aim is to identify opportunities for long-term cooperation and practical partnerships between Finnish and Qatari authorities, institutions and companies.
Finland and Qatar share a strong interest in promoting innovation, sustainable economic growth and private-sector development. The visit will highlight the successful cooperation between Qatar Investment Authority and Finnish Industry Investment Ltd (Tesi).
