Doha, Qatar: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) proceeds with its efforts to provide access to life-saving health and nutrition services in Yemen, with a new humanitarian project launched for the benefit of over 50,000 vulnerable people in Abs District, Hajjah Governorate.
With a total funding of $600,000 from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs’ (OCHA) Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), the project involves a whole package of health and nutrition activities as follows: Five health facilities (one hospital and four health centres) have been rehabilitated and are being operated by QRCS, including the provision of medications, medical equipment, solar panels, water supply, fuel, operating materials, and staff remunerations.
To treat acute malnutrition among children and women, the project would launch therapeutic and supplementary nutrition programmes and create infant and young child feeding consultation corners at the target facilities.
It also strengthens malnutrition early detection mechanisms by engaging community health volunteers in screenings and referrals, as well as launching community-based screening campaigns and awareness-raising activities for malnutrition prevention and control.
Dr. Munira Dahan Al-Aini, programmes specialist at QRCS’s office in Yemen, explained, “To address urgent health and nutritional needs, this project enables health facilities to deliver primary health care, reproductive health, maternal and child care, emergency medicine, nutrition, and mental health services”.
