New mobile phone app to translate Friday sermons soon
DOHA: A new mobile phone application that can capture Friday sermons and offer simultaneous translations is being developed in Qatar.
Fahad bin Abdul Qader Al Amri, Head of  a local technology company that has developed the programme, said it will captures Arabic sermons by waves and translate them to several languages, the local Arabic daily Al Watan reports.
“The project has been referred to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs for approval,” he told the daily.
The company is also developing technological solutions such as applications to enable mobile phone users to make distress calls in emergency such as burglaries and accidents. The ‘Qatar Emergency Assistance’ programme will send a report to Ambulance Services in case of an emergency or to police in cases of an accident or burglary. It is being developed to benefit callers in three categories — callers attending big events like the FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar pilgrims in Mecca and workers in the oil and gas sector.
Al Amri said the application is being developed in consultation with the Ministry of Interior. The Peninsula
